In the 90’s we saw one of the BEST basketball teams, ever. The Chicago Bulls. They were a team that dominated the 90’s by winning 6 championships. Some would say that the team would not have won that many championships without the great Michael Jordan. They would be right.
However, the Chicago Bulls had something amazing, beyond Michael Jordan, they had a great team. Would the Bulls have won six championships without Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Horace Grant, John Paxon (a Valley villain), or Bill Cartwright? Probably not. Sometimes the supporting cast is just as important as the superstar.
Just like any team, one superstar can not make the entire team. You need to have great teammates and great team chemistry. Playing as a team will make your team better.
As our children continue to grow and become adults, we want to make sure that teamwork is part of their everyday life. From attending school to landing their first job, teamwork will be part of their lives.
Here are some quotes from basketball greats about teamwork.
Lessons Of Teamwork From Basketball Greats
Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming. – John Robert Wooden
One man can be a crucial ingredient on a team, but one man cannot make a team. – Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
When a gifted team dedicates itself to unselfish trust and combines instinct with boldness and effort–it is ready to climb. — Pat Riley
Our goal is not to win. It’s to play together and play hard. Then, winning takes care of itself. — Mike Krzyzewski
Good teams become great ones when the members trust each other enough to surrender the ‘me’ for the ‘we’. — Phil Jackson
As you can see, teamwork is important in sports. A team working towards a common goal is going have a better chance to achieve their goal than the team full of superstars that will not play together.
One would also argue that knowing your role on a team is just as important. Take Dennis Rodman. He knew his role on the team was rebounding, not scoring. So, Dennis was the league leader in rebounds multiple years during this great run.
Sports are about more than just competing, it is about learning life lessons. Here at B.E.S.T., we believe that teamwork is an essential life skill that all children must learn. Our programs help teach youngsters how to be part of a team as early as 18-months-old.
