This is one of the best times of the year, especially if you live here in Phoenix. We have great weather, tons of sunshine, and even a great football team.
For many of you, today marks the first day of Winter Break. This year let’s do things a bit different and get active. I know it is going to be hard to compete with that new Xbox, but physical activity is fun too.
Activities For Winter Break
This winter break lets work on your sports fundamentals with these 5 activities for Winter break.
Start the day with a good stretch. Stretching will help get the blood flowing, help your posture, and improve your balance. Yes, this can help you too, parents. Start by bending and touching your toes and end with some light jumping jacks. This will get both you and your child ready for the day.
Run The Bases
As a coach, I know that one of the favorite activities is running. I know that does not sound great to you as a parent, but kids love to run. Let’s get a little organization to our running and teach a valuable skill at the same time.
Head down to the park or use your backyard as a baseball diamond. Start by running from first, then home to second, then home to third, and finish with a home run. Who knows, if you run them enough you might even get a nap in (consider than an early Christmas present).
Is your child into basketball? I know as a child one of my favorite things to do was play HORSE with my dad. HORSE is a great way to work on your shot and have some fun at the same time. Start with some free throws and then work on those trick shots. If you have a young child, maybe PIG is the right game for you.
Take Advantage Of The BEST Facility
Here at BEST, we have a top-notch sports facility. From basketball to Karate, we have you covered. Bring your child down for one of our fun events that we have all the time. We get them moving and learning the basics of sports, and even give you a date night on us.
We all know that this time of year can be hectic and stressful, but use it to teach the fundamentals of sports and have fun at the same time. There are tons of sports games that you can play with your children that get both you and your child active.
Just because it is Winter break does not mean we need to sit around and wait for Santa. Let’s stay active and have some fun over the next two weeks.
We have new programs starting all the time. Check out our schedule and get signed up today!
